Birthday girl

Victoria requested a birthday party in Mexico this year - with a pinata and tamales, she said! So, with the help of Abuelita and Abuelito, Tia Yadira, Tia Cristina, and lots of cousins, she had her party! Here she is making tamales, with the cake, with her GIANT Hello Kitty pinata, and enjoying the food! In the past, we've had birthday parties either at my in-laws' home or church in Monterrey, but this year, since we wanted to go to "el rancho" to see the great-grandparents, we decided to do the party there. The kids from their church were invited, and everyone seemed to have a great time! It was a great learning experience for Victoria too - although it was HER party, it was also very much a party for the kids in the community - a very poor community where parties like hers are few and far between - so she didn't get tons of presents. She only asked about it once, and I was very proud of the way she accepted my response. I want to raise children who understand that it really is more blessed to give than to receive!
